Tasting Notes
A concentrated bouquet of dried apricots, honey and botrytis combined with the typical slate notes of this site. The almost decadently rich and full flavor seems to linger indefinitely.

Foie gras in all its variations, blue cheese, and very rich desserts.
Processing and Aging
In the different sections of the Doctor vineyard, the grapes were hand-picked and carefully selected. They were then pressed in baskets in the vineyard to achieve a longer maceration period. Whole cluster pressing took place for approx. 24 hours. This wine was fermented without any additives of yeasts or enzymes, in stainless steel tanks for approximately four to six months and then aged in traditional 1000-liter wooden barrels. For more complexity and stability, it was left on the fine lees for at least three to four months.
Growing Region and Climate
The world-renowned, 100% steep-slope vineyard Berncasteler Doctor is located at an elevation of 125 to 200 meters above sea level with a south-southwest orientation. It is characterized by stony, loamy, and slate-bearing Devonian clay slate weathered soil. Due to the special alignment of the site, good sun exposure is guaranteed almost all day, which defines the later aroma profile in the grapes. Additionally, the numerous slate-covered roofs of Bernkastel below the vineyard reflect heat into the steep slope, which also benefits the ripening process.
