Tasting Notes

Initially slightly yeasty on the nose, followed by exotic aromas of kumquat, star fruit, elderflower, a hint of lychee and yellow stone fruit characterize this refreshing wine. Very harmonious with a fine, almost concentrated slate spice and an invigorating acidity. Subtle wood notes from the Doppelstück barrel make the wine appear even more complex and harmonious.

Food Pairing

A wonderful brilliant, finely structured wine for almost all occasions, be it with light dishes such as salmon, risottos or salads. The perfect glass of wine for a pleasant conversation with friends or to end the day comfortably.

Processing and Aging

The grapes are hand-picked and carefully selected. They were then gently crushed in tubs in the vineyard to achieve a longer maceration time. The whole bunch pressing took place over approximately 14 hours. This wine was fermented without any added yeasts or enzymes in a large Doppelstück oak barrel (2400 Ltr) for approximately six months. For more complexity and stability, it was left on the fine lees for at least three to four months.

Growing Region and Climate

On the banks of the Moselle, before the Bernkastel town exit, lies the premier site Bernkasteler Lay. Over approximately four hectares, in its core, very old vines for this Auslese grow on finely weathered blue slate soil. The vineyards are oriented west to southwest, with a gentle slope from 115 to 135 meters above sea level. This particular orientation of the site guarantees good sun exposure almost all day long, which contributes to the later aroma profile in the grapes.
